Oil prices rise to record highs above $144

NEW YORK (AP) - Oil prices shot to new records above $144 a barrel Wednesday as the government reported a bigger-than-expected drop in U.S. supplies and the threat of conflict with Iran weighed on traders' minds.

Light, sweet crude for August delivery rose as high as $144.13 on the New York Mercantile Exchange shortly after the market closed. The contract also notched a new closing record, settling at $143.57—a full $2.60 above the previous high from a day earlier.

The real alternative fuel is GASOLINE. The Government and the FED must stop screwing the American dollar, we need to stop pissing off Oil producing countries with the Bush Nation Building tactics, and the Auto companies must make MPG advances in the Internal combustion engine. There is no "Oil Crisis" there is a "financial (US Dollar) crisis".

Electric cars cannot replace the modern automobile yet. Battery technology does not exist to provide range longevity and drivability. In addition, the manufacture of and disposal of batteries will create a whole new set of environmental problems. The hydrogen fuel cell is the only real alternative to Gasoline right now. It has zero emissions, has the capability to offer usable driving ranges and can be made affordable in the short term.

Dont let the oil companies pull the wool over your eyes. They have been waiting for a host of issues to mask their massive price hikes. It still only cost an oil company about 30 dollars to produce a barrel of oil. The currency issue, middle east tensions and ethanol robbing floods account for a minute percentage increase. Oil magnates have long wanted to stop giving America cheap gas. Wait till after the elections, 4 dollar gas will be a fond memory.
