| I love cock fighting | Re: Intrade... This is fucking stupid. This is straight up gambling. These dumb idiots. "Why have we been trading stocks all along?" Maybe because you are taking a share in a company that is trying to create value. There are financial reasons for trading futures for risk management in companies , but hedging on political outcomes has little value to business because placing a value or cost associated with a political outcome is difficult. Even if the audience is right most of the time, the odds will reflect that and include juice. This is stupid, and people don't even understand this shit. You might as well bet of sports. There is no free lunch. Last edited by TheDriver; 05-14-2008 at 11:29 AM. |

What's the difference between betting on sports and outcomes of political and current events? Last edited by TheBagman; 05-14-2008 at 11:41 AM. |

| You Want Mustard on That? | Re: Intrade... Companies used to sell stock to allow investors to share in the profitability of sound corporations. Today Companies are held hostage and forced to make unwise and sometimes damaging decisions because of stockholders. In the past sound business practices and good investments returned good profits on investments and some times investors won and sometimes they lost a bit, which forced companies to become more competitive and profitable. Today profit taking is first and foremost, satisfy the investors at all costs or they will destroy the company. So quality, safety and innovation are pushed to the background. |

What is my problem with this site? First, it makes regular people think that its not gambling. Just call it what it is. Second. Stocks are valued in many way through fundamental and technical analysis. The value of a stock is generally the discounted cash flows it expects to generate plus the value of options to expand or innovate. You can't do that with a candidate. If a candidate goes 'bankrupt', you can't liquidate it. There is no underlying assets. What about insider trading? Even online sports books will call bets void if something becomes public before an event. If anyone has insider info, they could pretty much rape all of the people on this site. How are these stocks generated? I would be interested in that. What is stopping the company from just creating stocks out of the clear blue sky? I assume nothing. I could see you making money as a dealer on there, but I assume the site is pretty much the dealer, picking up on the spread whenever it can. I just think the site is retarded and is attracting people for the wrong reasons. Everyone thinks they have some system, but they don't know shit. You can't make money in that gay market. With any reward, there is risk. You might as well throw your money out the window. Thats what I think of that... ![]() |

That is exactly the same with sports betting. I don't think you understand what this is. I didn't post this as to what your opinion is whats a stock and whats not. Last edited by TheBagman; 05-14-2008 at 02:14 PM. |
