![]() ![]() | Flash's Front Lines I John Patrick Gordon, who ran in Vancouver Kensington in the last two Provincial Elections for the BC Marijuana Party,( taking on Ujaal Dasange, then, Patrick Wong), F.K.A. ‘FlashGordon’ on www.Pot-tv.net with Newshawk’s clips, and ‘Holly-weed Pot-arazzi’ in Xtra west plus a pot- people column and Forums. “Flash’s Chronic Chronicles” on Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture online magazine site, have “defected” from the BCMP and made buds with the new P.E.P.S.E. Generation Civic Pot party and plans to race along side of Mike Hansen and Marc Boyer, of www.remarcable.ca , in upcoming Vancouver City election. I insist however I’m not abandoning our BCMP President, Marc Emery in his time of great peril but adding another vantage by which to topple the U.S. Drug Czar's drug war monolith. My intentions are to get involved, now, in civic politics, received a warm welcome from the PEPSE Generation party I embrace their ideology of : ‘Protecting’ our children against organized crime, gangs and a vibrant black market ; ‘Educating’ towards harm reduction and hemp-u-cating the public; the ideal of drug- war ‘Peace’ as a real alternative and ; ‘Sovereignty’: Not to fight a US war on our own soil against our own brothers and sisters ; sovereignty: to govern and police ourselves, and make our own meaningful laws , and finally plus, a genuine concern for the ‘Environment’ with practical new alternatives use of resources at hand and saving the environment through development of hemp based industries. Hon Justice Minister Irwin Cotler 'By the People for the Economy' agenda with Big Brother Sam, and essentially fascist view of government and the economy, was obvious when Cotler discarded Renee Boje's family first, then used Emery and his two best friends as further chips of commerce; pot activists as pawns to compensate the hunger of the fundamentalist evangelicals down south as they feast on our Canadian Sovereignty . I have personally known Marc Emery, Michelle, Greg, Steve Tuck, Renee Boje and the Kubbys’. They are fugitives from the U.S. war on drugs but in no way are they "criminals." It's time to stop the militarization of a medical issue and criminalization of the chronically sick, terminally ill and chemically dependent. Canada is like the United States' younger, saner brother. We were first to abolish slavery and alcohol prohibition. The legalization of marijuana will be the next hard moral lesson we will have to teach our bully brother to the south. I pray that sanity will prevail. Marc Emery would be the first person who could qualify to be executed for drug crimes under a recent U.S. law for seed sales. If Emery were to be extradited and prosecuted in the US, Marc would be a minimum of 10 years, they’re saying now... or, worse: a life imprisonment, under ‘Drug Kingpin’ legislation, “The manufacture or distribution of 60,000 kilograms of marijuana, 60,000 plants or 60,000 seeds” all are included in death penalty provisions of the medieval law passed recently by a Newt Gingrich congress. Despite what you may think of his libertarian ethics, hedonism or choice in woman, or buisness dealings Marc’s a Canadian son and should not be sacrificed as a Pawn of Commerce to the United States in trade negotiations not should our proud BC Bud industry. Flawed logic in stating that legalization or half measures like decriminalization will increase drug use, misery and death is not held by statistics on decreased drug use where soft drugs are available as an alternative and gateway back from hard drugs and shows what an uphill battle it is for us advocates of personal liberty and autonomy to educate the brainwashed of arguments from a reefer madness era. I've even seen hard drug addicts and alcoholics wean off their self-destruction by using pot as an ' exit drug' and as Stats further provide, seldom as a 'gateway drug'. Cannabis is less "addictive" than caffeine and not physically addictive at all. Ask people who know real addictions like cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines and alcohol -- they'll tell you marijuana provides solace and keeps them off the hard stuff. Lying to young people about the "dangers" of marijuana is counter-productive, as has been shown by the failed DARE program in our schools. The only "gateway" occurs when prohibition does not distinguish between drugs and there is no safe place for people to acquire and enjoy their intelligent preference. The real harm is the legal and social fallout. The average age of introduction to cannabis is 15 and use is highest in ages 16 to 24. If the age of cannabis consent finally settles at 18, and the average age of introduction remains the same, for three years the young people have been obtaining their cannabis from sources outside of the regulated market, exposing them to cannabis that hasn't been government-inspected, nor limits the sale to only cannabis. Dealers offering cannabis to the pre-of-age teens may offer an enticing assortment of harder drugs, like alcohol , cocaine and meth.. It is better to accept a certain reality that some 16-year-olds will seek cannabis and have them go through regulated channels. In Sweden and native reservations where cannabis is prohibited, curious teens opt for solvents or alcohol. Some teens credit cannabis for preventing their teenage suicide. About half of all drug arrests in Canada are for simple possession of small amounts of marijuana: about 31,299 convictions in 1995 alone. Many lead to jail terms or fines and all result in that indelible social tattoo: a criminal record forcing higher aspirations to go up in a puff of smoke. If prohibition is repealed and the herb is available in regulated coffee shops, herb stores and pharmacies, people wouldn't be offered meth, crack and heroin, by the black market, like they are now. It has been demonstrated in countries like Holland and Switzerland, which have decriminalized cannabis and separated cannabis from heroin, that decriminalization reduces the consumption in both drugs. It reduces crime and allows those countries to redirect the funds that would otherwise have gone into prisons, courts, unnecessary police and other related costs to such useful things as education, health care, fighting homelessness and other pressing social issues. After Switzerland switched to a harm-reduction strategy on heroin, the crime rate dropped by 60 per cent. By one estimate, 70 per cent of Canada's crime is addiction-related in some way. Cannabis is less addictive than caffeine and not physically addictive at all. It has been shown in strong marijuana prohibitionist countries that hard-drug use increases. Where there is the least availability of marijuana, in countries like Sweden, youth are even turning to solvents. With no drug war, fewer victims would get hooked on hard drugs. If they did, they could go to the doctor to get their drugs instead of a pimp; or instead of prostituting themselves; or instead of committing violent crimes to get their fix ;or shoot up in an alley with puddle water. A system preoccupied in a war against a plant diverts precious resources from more serious issues and crime. We all need protection against those that seek to harm us, our loved ones, and the vulnerable but given such a finite resource as our tax dollar, shouldn't priority be given to violent crimes rather than controlling which plants a gardener grows? Willy's pig farm is part of the fallout of the war on drugs and should be examined further to show what a complete failure the drug civil war is. Opportunists like the "US Drug Czar" John Walters and "B.C.'s Top Cop" Rich Coleman use drug war media hysteria to advance their careers. Closed-minded liberally under-educated Police, politicians and media against legalization with their boonie-bias and outright bigotry - with total lack of regard for personal freedom, liberty, or hard-fought-for democratic right, law or even due process-, support organized crime. It is their bread and butter, so why not? I've had the great privilege to write about the Da Kine store for Cannabis Culture magazine. I found Carol and her staff to be good people. They are not going to try and convince you to try crystal meth or crack or rave drugs -- or even alcohol or cigarettes. They prefer to see people making the natural, healthy, intelligent choice of cannabis. The system of delivery for cannabis set up by Health Canada has been a miserable failure, offering a cumbersome bureaucracy and paperwork that exchanges medical users' and growers' civil rights for the liberty of growing or processing marijuana. In Amsterdam there are about 100,000 estimated home growers that, supply a growing variety of local cafes . Growing has become a family run cottage industry for many, and pours millions of dollars into their economy through soft drug tourism . In BC it’s really difficult for home growers because of prohibition, and the war on drugs . Other people in society can have valuables locked up in there homes and can rely on police and friendly neighbors to keep an eye out , Or can install loud security alarms. The average home grower cannot do this for fear of detection There is no way to get insurance. They live in fear of break- ins and cannot invite their friends or children’s friends to visit and there is always the possibility someone will extort or blackmail them with threat of being snitched on. If they witness something, or have domestic problems, it is less likely they will feel comfortable in calling the police or acting as a witnesses . Those that rent cannot usually be honest with their land lords about it and work out special Contracts, in the event of damages. Home growers are also less likely to make noise and act up politically for their rights .They are ‘Prisoners in their own Homes’. Who can you tell? Who can you trust? Social Services can take your kids away . Your heart is in your mouth every time the doorbell rings... If you have a unregistered weapon to defend yourself against home invasion (not against the Police) you’re facing more serious time. If you grow tomatoes, which require about the same resources and difficultly as marijuana you may share some or trade them to your friends and neighbours . If you want to sell them in the store you have to have a license and they have to be inspected for quality . Pharmacies and licensed cafes and established Compassion clubs would require such standards. High quality medical marijuana is not grown as well in a large scale Operation and competition would dictate that the BC home grown marijuana would be more popular. Wise people are not willing to hack their lungs on 5 or 6 % Flin Flon government shwagg when they can take a few puffs of healing ,sacred ,organically grown 10 or 15 % THC, (Because it's properly grown cured and cared for), BC Homegrown kind buds. The home grown market would boost the economy of British Columbia, putting money in the pockets of the average person. Which they could spend, however they choose. The only system that works for cities with hard-drug addicts is separating cannabis from the black market and providing safe places to buy it and imbibe ![]()

Well, kind of. John Patrick Gordon, a.k.a. ‘Flash’, has thrown his hemp hat into the ring of Vancouver city politics, running for council as part of the PEPSE Generation Civic Pot party. Gordon says he’s not abandoning embattled pot activist Marc Emery, but doing it to add “another vantage by which to topple ... This spring, he finished with 245 votes. - Irwin Loy, 24 hours

Campaign manager and nominee for school trustee Yorum Adler said of the grass roots gathering: “It is good to see democracy at work and that it works!” There was some delay in achieving critical mass but no one was leaving as everyone stayed to double dip on the free creamy herb dips or munch a cookie provided by Marc Boyer of www.remarcable.ca who gave legal arguments he proposes as reasons to have him on board at city hall as a councilor who would face down the police unions. John Patrick Gordon who has run twice on the ticket of the BC marijuana party these past two provincial elections, spoke eloquently on his desire to run “not for the sake of pot” which is available he says on “every street corner’ but “‘pot people’; those persecuted and losing their kids their homes and careers, in a senseless American imported civil war pits brother against brother.” Mike Hansen tallied their odds in his speech and urged others to join in the effort and at least make a statement with their vote if not vote at all. He said Mayor Campbell warned “If you don’t vote for me then don’t come to my office and complain” where as Mike Hansen invites voters “If you don’t vote for me then please come to my office and tell me why.
