    | Get the Shovel, Here comes the Bullshit. It appears there is now a renewed discussion about lowering the Speed limits on our roadways as a way to conserve Gas. What Bullshit. Today the Traffic Alert signs on all the Interstates here in Jersey were displaying the message: Slow Down, Save Gas! Just how fucking stupid do the politicians in this country believe we are? In a modern car that has been correctly tuned and geared, lower speeds have little benefit to fuel mileage, and there is even less evidence to support widespread compliance by the general population. Therefore, the only benefit of lower speed limits will be to the Law Enforcement coffers and the bank accounts of the Insurance companies, which will reap the rewards of more frequent and more costly speeding violations. I swear that the older I get the more I cannot believe the nonsensical bullshit that is leveled at the general population on a daily basis. ARRRGGGGUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! I feel a bit better now. | ||||

| Re: Get the Shovel, Here comes the Bullshit. lower it to what? higher, steady speeds are better for gas mileage. on most cars spedometer, the speed of 55mph or 65mph is usually a different color than the other speeds. it will be different from car to car but if you look at your 55 or 65 is in orange and the rest is in white or some other color. most people think it's like that because of the speed limits but it's not. that is where your car gets optimum gas mileage. thats why it's accented like that. these legislaters need to get their head out of their ass. driving slower will not give us better gas mileage. fuckin fixing our roads will though. i've never seen roads as bad as ohio. we drive on these shit ass roads and then our tires get all fucked up and our alignment gets fucked up. our cars stop trailing right and start dog tracking and shit. that fucks our mileage up. stupid assholes | ||||

And Boon you are correct that steady speed and precise footwork with the go pedal make a difference. My Acura TL has a manumatic tranny, on a trip up from Florida with the tranny locked in 5th, on I-95, I managed over 30 miles a gallon. This in a car that normally gets 20-22 MPG. And I ran that tank at an average of 75 to 90 MPH. Now maybe I could have gone 55 bumped the mileage up a tad, but It also would have added an hour or two to the total distance travelled. | ||||

In my car I got now I drive 55 I get 34 mpg... at 65 I get 29-30, and at 80 I get 27 so it def. helps in at least some cars... but yea, no way they should lower the speed limits, that would just cause more accidents... fucking people from Ill come to wisconsin and drive 85 on our freeways because their speed limit is higher than ours... now that's a fucking hazard | ||||

Couple this with road dollars being funnelled to public transit projects and it's obvious that government would like people out of their cars, period. *I-5 going through the Terwilligar curves was upgraded from 3 lanes north and south to 1. That section of freeway also happens to carry the most traffic in Oregon. How in the fuck is that an upgrade? | ||||

So to save us money on gas, they want to go self serve at stations, which what, will save 6 cents at the most, and lower the speed limit state wide to 55MPH Rediculous, neither will do any good, cause if it did, they would have done it long ago | ||||
