what works for me is soaking it for a long ass time (over night or for the day) in rubbing alcohol (strongest % is best) and then after that I make sure that stuff is off of the piece (soak it in water, or boil it)

that's if you really want it clean

i just soak mine in rubbing alcohol, comes out looking like new, fill up a container put on the lid, shake it every so often... after a night it should be good, if your not in a hurry do it for 24hrs
