![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the healthcare debate ive noticed many of our neighbors to the north make reference to their free health care. well friends, first, nothing is free. canada has a 45% give or take tax rate which part of that money covers healthcare. I pay 10$ a paycheck for united healthcare insurance and it rules. I am a believer in you pay for what you get. It is no secret the untied states has the best facilities, doctors, and medicine in the world. I have read countless articles about canadian Drs comming to the us, of canadians needing emergency care comming to the us because of the subpar canadian health care system, the long waits, the old equipment, the lack of equipment, and so on. what is everyones feelings on this issue.

"theys good cause theys free. shoot. yea...shoot"

| Brofessor | Re: the healthcare debate Exactly Gil. Nothing is "free," in a socialist system unless you do not work. Free healthcare only rewards those who do nothing to help society, cause those that are working, and if lived in a non socialized system would be able to pay for thier own healthcare through thier employment. I pay $10 a month, and a $15 dollar co-pay every time I go in to the Doctor. Plus anything major done a LARGE portion of it is paid for by my employer. I have access to the best facilities, and I too hear about Canadians coming down to America, especially when I lived in Minnesota, they'd come to the Mayo Clinic one of the best cancer clinics in the world just to get the best healthcare there is to offer. Im not saying Canada sucks, but socialized healthcare does, or really, socialized anything for that matter. |

| Hence, my self-loathing | Re: the healthcare debate America does have the best health-care, but they are milking us blind. The Health Insurance companies are huge black holes where nothing escapes not even light. As a self employed person, I pay $1250 a month for a "family" health Insurance plan (HMO). And I can only go to the Doctors in my plan, and if I need a specialist I need to have my regular doctor give me a permission slip (referral). Co-pay $20 per visit, and $15 per prescription. If you do the math, I am paying 15000 dollars a year on Health coverage, It would be cheaper to just pay my Doctor bills when I need to. But If I was to be injured, or become ill and need surgery or hospitalisation, I would be bankrupt in 2 weeks by the Best health care system in the World. Because I am not poor or illegal I must pay through the nose. What pisses me off most is knowing that if I had no coverage and one of my kids became very ill, the best health care system in the world would most likely let my son die, while an illegal immigrant or some poor person would get what they need for free. The only way to start to fix this very broken system is for the Government to find and employ new doctors, and pay their student loans off. During the allotted time of this arrangement, these doctors would work for modest wages, and would treat all comers without gouging and Health insurance companies making decisions. Would that solve the whole problem, not even close, but it would be a start. Consider yourself lucky if your company has good health benefits, because most companies are cutting back their offerings too. |

You should stop talking to pre-teen Canadians gill, because anyone that has ever paid tax is completely aware that our healthcare system is not free. but if you feel special for stating the obvious, you have my support.

| The Pedobear Seal of Approval! | Re: the healthcare debate I am a firm believer that free-health care is good...but only to an extent. I recommend a reduced price system for the poor/underprivledgeed but they will have to know that the health care they are getting will be damn shoddy, but that is the risk they take. However, I know in europe, where taxes are 50%, you can get free baby sitting for your new born child, take a year or two off with full pay if you are pregannt, all of this...benefits...but at what price? Taxes, or in france's case, TOO MANY REGULATIONS. If France employed jsut a LITTLE bit more free-capitalism, they wouldn't have these african-french rioting. They wouldn't be known as buffons cause if you want to work overtime you can't. otherwise the police will stop you. There is a reason why no one wants to start a business in france. too much hassle. Our country will rise again, and be great...but maybe when that happens, it will be too late, maybe china will have overtaken us, and we will never getit back. We just don't know dude. |
