Help me with this laptop idea.

Alright, I was fucking stoned off my balls tonight and I was presented with the question from a friend "What are you asking for christmas this year?" And I was like "holy shit....CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE, fuck yeah." And I thought and thought and decided I'm going to ask for a laptop and a subscription to netflix for my christmas/birthday present, plus for school when I graduate in may. Anyways, I don't really know what to get. I know I want a big harddrive, like 120gigs or so, like 512-1gig of memory, and a cd/dvdburner. Point me in a nice direction to some good laptops you might come across. Thanks. :blazed:

how much are your parents gonna spend on that shit? a notebook with a 120 gig hard drive is gonna be expensive.

i'd go with a simple 60-80 gig hard drive, 512 megs ram, dvd burner, xp, ..

hey guys, is there a palm pilot or some shit that has some of the same capabilities?
maybe not a 60 gig had or nothing but is there a palm with like 20 gigs that can play all the video formats. mp3's and wma's, handle still pics and still do the shit a palm does?

thats my dilemma. i have been wanting a palm for a long time but ever since i have been getting all these fights and now that i can rip a dvd and convert it for free i kinda want something i can tote that shit with. the wife has been wanting another mp3 player and if i get a media player that will suffice as a mp3.

i can spring like 6 bills and get a notebook but i was kinda wanting something small like that media player or a palm. some of those media players have voice recorders and cameras too.
if there is a palm with those functions i'm all over that shit

Hey Boon,
Why is it that you want the Palm? You need an organizer or need to run certain programs?

Palm makes the Lifedrive, but I think it would be substandard for Video and shit. (and Palm accessories can be very expensive. Their tech support is not good either unless you are really good at talking to Babbar in New Deli). I've got a Palm T3 that is like an extension of my brain. It's got RealPlayer on it for music, but it sounds like shit. The true problem with the Palm for the use you want is battery life. Palm's battery model is geared towards daily use to do lookups or quick calcs or shit like that, a few minutes at a time. If I play a game or something with audio and motion vid, the battery drops out after about a little more than an hour.

I don't know how the Portable media players fare with battery life, but the look and sound a lot better than any palm I've heard. There is a whole slew of small laptops available now that are great, Sony, Dell, and Toshiba all have them, but they get very expensive. The plus side is they can run full blown Windows Xp and support everything you can do on a desktop.

If I were you I think I'd go for a Media Player, and maybe buy a lower end Palm like the Tungsten E2. Then you'd have the best of both world's and it would fit your budget.
