| Freak | how many of you work on your own cars? are you any good? whats the biggest repair you've ever made? the thing i hate the most about being fucked with a abd back is that i can;t wrench anymore. before i got hurt the only thing i took my car in for was tires/alignments. i did everytihng else myself. i loved working on cars and i was pretty damn good at it. now it sucks cause i have to take it to a shop and first off i hate paying for something that i should be able to do myself and i hate other people touching my cars. you guys have a good collection of tools? what kind? i had several thousand dollars worth of tools before i sold them. my box alone was $1,000. thousands of dollars in impact wrenches and quality tools. i had some craftsman shit and a little bit of snap on but most of it was mac and cornwell. this was my bottom box ![]() this was my top box ![]() sweet man. roller bearings. i fuckin miss it. i had composite impact wrenches. i wish i wouldn;t have sold them but i can't use them no more and i needed to pay off a couple things. sucks though |

| Freak | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? if you wrench i recomend you buy good tools. craftsman will do jsut fine. pick up old shit at garage sales and flea markets and bring them back to sears. they'll give you new shit no questions asked. pick up an old ratchet thats all rusty and shit and bring it in and say it gives out or something...chip screwdrivers on purpose and they'll give you new shit. lowes sells tools called cobalt and they are made by snap on. they're good quality. snap on is the best but fuckin hell they are expensive |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? I Had a 69 Bronco. I put a power steering unit in it with the help of a friend. put alot of the after market engine parts on it. headers, throttle body spacer and k&n vortex intake, easy shit like that. I also put the 6" suspension lift on it with the help of a couple friends. put the wench on, and some racks and shit. thats about the extent of my working knowledge of trucks. as for tools, Ive got a massive amount of tools. but theyre not really automotive. Im working on my journey man electricians license. Ive got loads of hand tools, and a nice cordless Makita set. got some woodworking saws and shit too, like a band saw, jig saw and router. I dont really have a nice tool box though. I could use one for my shop, but at work I always use bags and a tool belt. Edit, forgot you asked what kind. My hand tools are all Klein (electricians gold) and I think the stuff in my shop is mostly craftsman. I dont really like craftsman, but its sweet to be able to take em back.

![]() ![]() | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? I don't have much money for expensive tool sets, but i have the basics; wrenches, sockets ect... i took three years of shop at high school... i change my fluids, belts, and other easy stuff. the biggest job i did would probably be replacing my brake pads ![]()

| Hence, my self-loathing | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? When I was younger I almost lived under under the hood of my cars. Now between work, and the house and the kids, I don't really touch much anymore. In Jersey it's even a pain in the ass to get rid of dirty oil, so I let the dealers or Jiffy Lube do it. I do still do brake jobs on my cars though. I sometimes miss doing my own auto work, it was fun (sometimes). |

| (o)(o) | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? I put gas in it once.... spilled it all over my car, and the ground, some on my shoes too... oh and I know the dude at the carwash, we've blazed a fewtimes so if I don't feel like goin into his office and smokin one he lets me chill in the car instead of getting out like everyone else if that counts? I think it should. |

![]() ![]() | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? i just tore down a bunch of shit yesterday trying to find out why my car made a loud ass pop and wouldnt run anymore after i cranked the boost up to 18 psi (my genius ghetto home made washer boost controller mod). i didnt hear any knocking or ticking or anything that made me suspect metal on metal so i figured the engine was fine. after checking out the turbo, which was in way better shape that i would have ever expected, i figured out it was just a boost leak from a pipe coming loose. i had already checked the plugs, checked the wastegate, and all sorts of bullshit. i havent done anything major yet, but im not too bad at troubleshooting thus far.

| Anger Is A Gift | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? I can do the small things, most of the mods and shit in my car though someone else did. I don't really have the tools or knowledge to put a new exhaust system or turbo or any of that shit. I kinda wish I hadn't put so much shit into it, I want to get a GTI now. |

![]() ![]() | Re: how many of you work on your own cars? it's not an svo, it's a stock 2.3 technically. they put forged pistons in, possibly better valves, not sure, added a front mount, bigger maf and injectors, bigger fuel pump, ran an oil line to the turbo from a pressure sensor in the head, returned it to the oil pan, and some other various odds and ends. it's definately home made. i have some engine pics if anyone's interested in seeing it. i dig the svo's but they're ugly. of course those are some stout little engines, inconel valves, forged pistons, they can take lots of boost and have easy mods. they last a long time too, only problem is that a lot of crap goes bad on them over time, so they're usually a work in progress all the time.
