Its not entirely true. Hunter S. Thompson was known to twist the truth of real events from time to time. He did it for his short stories and in his work as a journalist. I know that the real Dr. Gonzo/Oscar Z. Acosta wasnt a 300 pound Samoan and got pretty pissed at Hunter for turning him into that.

The story line isnt much... but I think Depp's acting is superb.
