   | I need someone with Subwoofer knowledge fast! Ok well I have three 10" MTX Audio subs, and I tore one of them (don't ask how). Would it be possible to repair it, or do I need to buy a new sub? I don't feel like spending the $100 for a new one... or what ever the hell they are now days... Here, i'll post some pics of the tear. | ||||

naw man, my brother gave me these untill I can afford my two JL Audio W7's. I accidently tore it taking it out of the car, I think I'll throw some masking tape with silicone glue on it.. hopefully it will work for now...

| Re: I need someone with Subwoofer knowledge fast! lol joey. i'm about to put my gear in my room and get some better stuff for mah van. but uh hey uh you with the mtx's. if they are dual voice coil (a set of two ports for a wire on each side of each sub, 4 ports total PER sub) 4 ohms, it looks like the only proper way to wire your gear on one amplifier = http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftec...DVC_267ohm.gif . those being rockfords makes no difference, the ohms/impedance/wattage issues are all the same. ok, so, you can wire most subs multiple ways to make an amplifier think it works at more or less ohms. ohms are a measurement of resistance to electrical current. higher number = more resistance = less flow of power. the less ohms, the more power it pulls from an amplifier. if you wire it for too low of an ohmage, it'll burn up your amplifier, and that's no fun. but i'm sure your bro won't letcha do that. annnyway, when you look at amp stats, you need a mono amp that goes "600 wrms x 1 @ 2.67 ohms" to perfectly power your subs. most amps aren't rated at 2.67. they commonly list 1, 2, and 4 ohm loads. and remember, the lower the ohmage, the more power it will put out. so, look for something that's 700 wrms x 1 @ 2 ohms, that means, if my math is worth a shit, in your system it will be about 642 wrms x 1 @ 2.67 ohms. and it is ALWAYS better to slightly over power your subs than to ever under power them. i think 700 wrms x 1 @ 2 ohms is probably the closest match you will find. just wire it up like i showed ya above and it should be good to go. here essentially is what you need: http://www.cardomain.com/item/HIFTX1005D , it's $320 from cardomain and they don't even have a picture of it up. here it goes on ikesound for $200. http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2858 though i wouldn't recommend hifonics, i wouldn't recommend mtx either tho so hehehe it's just the first one i saw that would work, and it does look ideal for ya. i'm not raggin on your subs, since they were free, but i would laugh atcha if you had spent money on em. by the way that amp goes up to 1000 x 1 @ 1 ohm, so it COULD power the subs i've got, but i wouldn't trust it to. yknow, i mean, keep that in mind that you will prolly be wanting to upgrade eventually. | ||||
