i finally did it... i signed my soul to the government...

i've been sworn into the navy.

and goddamn the whole thing was such a long fucking process... and so much waiting...

i took the asvab yesterday (the military aptitude test, i don't know what asvab stands for) and i scored better than i thought i did... an 80... i came with a 24 year old dude who scored a 51, but he still didn't do that bad... hes going into the master at arms field (military police)

i had to spend the night at a holiday inn (there was a huge group of people like me who were going in, and taking the physical today)

we had to get up at fucking 3:30 am, and the physical took hours to get everything done... but i check out... i can hear, i can see, i haven't smoked green in almost 2 months,i've never had any big health problems, and i've never even broken a bone.

i hated the part with the doctor tho... lets just say... i felt "violated"

anyways, i'm in.

i go to bootcamp on october 31st.

there were alot of parts to that test,i had just about perfect scores in vocabulary and reading comprehension, and i already wanted to get into journalism (something in the field of public affairs) ... but they all told me that i would qualify, but jobs in that field rarely open up...

now, i talked to a guy there for a long time on what i wanted to do, because i for sure wasn't going to choose just any job for now... he had a big list of jobs that i qualify for, that are currently open... but i wasn't interested in most of them...

actually, you would probably be surprised boon, even tho i never talk about mechanics on here, i'm not stupid when it comes to it... there were alot of high tech mechanics jobs open to me based on the test, but i don't really think i have the "mechanic's mind", i learned a few things from my dad, but never really thought of that as a career...

i very carefully reviewed what was open, and i chose ABF (Aviation Boatwain's Mate - Fuels) i would be on an aircraft carrier, refueling airplanes, performing maintenence on certain systems, putting out occasional fires, blah, blah, blah... it really did interest me, and sounds like a cool job... but, its more of a tryout for me... because i can switch out if i want to, the second a journalism job opens up, and my recruiter is pretty cool (i mean, i can tell hes not a fake asshole like most of them are, probably because hes not a career recruiter). he said that if journalism is what i really want, he can more than likely get me into it before i get shipped out to bootcamp, but even if i have to wait, it won't be a problem...

but who knows? i might love the job i chose

i was thinknig of joining the navy, im not sure though, i hear the air force is nice too, even if i dont fly a jet ( im not smart enough for that anyway) its still pretty nice, and my cousin was a jet fighter so maybe he could get me in

well getting into the armed forces isnt hard at all if your in good health, but i wouldnt want to be in the airforce if i wasnt gonna fly a plane your just gonna follow around the pilots cleaning up their turds

Congrats Pig. I went to see an Army recruiter today just to get some info and my dad went fucking balistic. I thought he would for sure be one of the people who would support me, but he didnt. So looks like im not going into anything.

I served 4yrs from 84-88 on a Fleet Ballistic Missle Boat.

Imagine the Skinner with an authority he doesn't accept...dammit, I'd get thrown out of the military in no time. I have a giant problemo with authorities.

Not the ones like me boss, we're pulling into the same direction.

But someone tell me to make me bed in a special way will get nothing but a laugh from me. Ask mom. Tell me to crawl in the mud and you get the finger.

and i'm going in because i want them to pay for school, i'll be making good money for being this young, i want the job training, i'll get some needed physical discipline, i'll get to see some cool shit, and other benefits...

entry level is an E1... but i'll be starting out in at least an E2 because i'm going to take a test on basic training knowledge shortly after i get in, and i might make an E3 if these two friends that i have (who are thinking about joining up) end up enlisting, and thats not bad money at all to start out with.
