i already know how to wield a sword better then allot of people but i want to make my skills better
has anyone ever taken kendo? or have anything to say about it

for those who dont know-kendo is japanese fencing with bamboo swords

I don't like kendo.

Never got into it.

It's like okay if you just want to be able to hit somebody.

But there are other japanese sword-schools you could attend.

If you are going to the japanese sword play remember:

A) Do not block with your cutting edge, always block with the side or the back of the blade. the edge is FAR too fragile to be durable.

B) every cut is a power cut. every strike can kill and remember to pull through while swinging.



Kendo ain't my thing, I used to do the SCA stuff though

I also would rather use a bokken than a kendo stick. Bokken can kill though...cause it's a wooden katana.

However, I'm not big into katanas at all.

I prefer rapiers, sabers...etc.

im not big into katanas either, i would rather have my 28 inch ninja sword then a 42 inch shinai but you got to learn somewhere


if i could i would rather learn ninjutsu/ninpo or the way of the samurai but no dojos near me teach it

Those are the smaller version of katanas.

Katanas are designed for open battlefields.

Wazas are designed mostly for indoor fighting and are more suitable for stabbing and the like, hence why most ninjas, when they MUST use a sword, use those.

Most ninjas don't even kill you with swords, they use like garden tools or other impliments.

i know what a wakizashi is(you spelled it wrong)- i dont want one
i would rather learn with a straight blade with no curve

curved blades are made mainly for slashing, they can be used for stabbing but its not as effective

also indoor fighting is a bad idea unless you got a high cieling. i cant count how many times me and my brother were swordfighting and one of us hit the cieling

most ninjas killed with whatever weapons they have-not neccesarily gardening tools. allot of ninjas used kusarigamas
