Music has never been a very large part of my life. Or I should say not for several years now. Growing up (I'm 25 now) I used to listen to mostly alternative or I should say mainstream alterative as anyone growing up then would say is not an oxymoron.

Regardless, I was a bit of a loner (putting it mildly) so I used to love to listen to this. But when I started striving to fit in, I began to ignore what I perfered and started listening to what was by then popular which of course was hip hop, rap et al. I do enjoy that type of music as well, but it just doesnt have the same resonance with me that those songs I listened to before those days do.

I think thats the reason I just havent given to shits about music for nearly a decade now. I just dont listen to anything anymore at all.

So now I decided to go and download all those albums I had growing up again, and I have to say in a weird way it is like going back

yeah i know, i knew that line would get me some shit, but honeslty, i feel that way to a point. thats the thing about music, it does tend to link itself to times in your life, and no matter what hearing something you havent heard in awhile leads to remembering the time you were listening to it

My dad had a 1986 gray Pontiac Firebird and would always be jammin' out to Billy Idol but he listened to whatever as long as it was rock from CCR, The Beatles, Stones, Dead to Guns n Roses, Ratt, Whitesnake, Poison, KISS, etc. I usually listened to whatever my dad listened to. But as I got older I would listen to some different stuff like grunge, 80's prog rock, some 80's pop was actually alright if not at the very least funny, 90s alternative rock wasnt too bad depending on the band, bumped a bit of Pac and Bone back in teh day. Now I listen to pretty much anything.

I listen to a lot more than I used to. Most important is the talent. Rap and Hip hop are not talent.

Teeny bopper chicks that need to wear underwear and dance all over while lip syncing is not talent. Fag Boy bands are not talent.

my mum was a bit of a 60s chick so we also had Janice, led zep, doors etc playing in my house growing up I still love music from 60, 70 and 80s some good shit.

Examples. Paul McCartney and Wings remind me of graduating 8th grade. Band on the run was played at the Graduation dance.

The Who - Quadrophenia - brings back memories of The jersey shore in the 70's (Seaside Heights) Smoking bongs, power hitters, Valium, Ludes.....

Zeppelin - brings back memories of Hanging out with friends in my old town...Drinking and getting stoned, Thai Sticks, hash....Wow.

The Beatles remind me of a couple of great friends that are dead now, Rocky Raccoon, and Number 9......Hours of Completely tripped out parties and fucked up fun...

Wow - I just realized most of my musical memories are of Drugs and getting wasted...LOL

Lets see, most Green Day and Offspring remind me of the days I used to do absolutly nothing but sit around my house.

311 reminds me of 7th and 8th grade getting into a bit to much trouble for my age lighting fires and causing misery for other people.

Big Pimpin reminds me of driving really really fast and recless around the shore around 2000 getting very high

I can remember real clear sitting on my basement stairs at some crazy hour on a school night when I was a child (5 or 6) hearing this song. My dads friends where over hanging out drinking beer. I remember a strange smell (i later figured out what that smell was) and this song. It put me in a trance. Anyway My dad busted me while going to get a beer and I ran upstairs, waited for him to go back to the basement and I ran back down to the 3rd or 4th step to the basement floor and just started to listen again. It was so great. After that I did the same thing everytime my dad had friends over.
