   | my step dad has 5 years to live if he's lucky....it's official he was diagnosed with a myeloproliferative disorder a couple weeks ago. it's a disease that could deveolpe into 1 of 6 types of cancer. they got the results from his bloodwork today and he has cml. chronic myelogenous leukemia he is in the chronic phase right now. chronic phase lasts 3-5 years and then it moves into the blast phase. most patients die in the blast phase and the blast phase last 3-6 months. just like that. figured i'd keep you posted. later | ||||

| Re: my step dad has 5 years to live if he's lucky....it's official his prognosis just got worse. this disease usually gets diagnosed in the chronic phase which he is in right now. this phase lasts 3-5 years if you're lucky before it turns into the blast phase or blast crisis and then you're fucked. my mom just said that 2 years ago he had a routine blood test done and was found to have an elevated white count. he had to go to the cancer center and have a bone scan done. for some reason he was not put on the gleevac, the meds that drops the white cells back down. i don't know why but he wasn't. that means that he was in the chronic phase 2 years ago when he had that test done. he was fatigued all the time and went to get a sleep test and i think he was told to have sleep apnea or some shit. so, in theory he has been in the chronic phase for 2 years now, maybe longer cause symptoms don't always present themselves early. so he could be moving into the blast crisis right now in in 6 months. | ||||
