Is sake a liquor or a wine?

Granted, Sake is rice wine...which could very well end the debate, however, Sake has very liquor like qualities.

1) It fucks you up good.
2) Higher Alcohol Content than regular beer or wine
3) Drunk in shots.

However, it is brewed much like wine. and...it is after all rice wine.

Maybe sake is some weird ass hybrid of wine and liquor...maybe sake is it's own type of alcohol

But fuck, I want answers.
