| Freak | you listen to Bob Dylan i've always liked him like a casual fan or whatever but lately i have been getting into him bigtime. some of his tunes are just amazing. in the music world he is pretty much reguarded as the greatest singer/songwriter that anyone alive has ever heard. i think it has a lot to do woth the type of songs he used to sing and where/when he used to sing them. his prime was mid 60's-early 70's but he's been steady for a while. he has done 100 shows a year since something like 1981. he's touring this year too. i'm gonna try to go check him out. |

Even the local DJ that always plays Dylan said when she saw him at SummerFest she was dissappointed... His voice def. aint' what it used to be, it's getting really bad. hey boon, did you still want those zappa cd's? They finished already |

I heard Dylan and the Mothers of Invention in the later 70's. Never really got to into them then, though one of the dudes that we hung with thought Zappa was a God. I was heavy into Zeppelin and the Who, Steve Miller.... And "modern music" was just getting started (Boston, the Cars, etc.). Then Punk started getting tangled with Disco and shit, so the heavy stoners (me included) kind of shunned a lot of new shit to listen to the "Classic Rock". As I've grown older, My musical tastes have opened up. I can now listen to almost anything that is well done, depending on the moment and the mood. Rap is still a big no no bullshit in my book. You are causing me to give a new listen to Zappa.... |

| Freak | Re: you listen to Bob Dylan i hear you annon. i have absorbing everything zappa for a couple weeks now. his lyrics are not for everyone cause he was a satirist but you have to listen to the music behind it. the mothers were like a 9 piece band and zappa would write all the lyrics and all the music for all 9 members. sometimes that had up to a 60 piece orchestra behind them and he wrote all their music too. 60 albums released in his career and they were all original compositions and he produced every record he ever released after 1963. imagine what he could have done if he wrote serious songs and got air play. my mother was a who super freak when i was a kid. i like townshend and all that and a couple songs but the who are just not for me. |

and man, if you would have been at summerfest last year, I think you'd know what I mean. It was really really bad. It didn't even sound like Dylan... I know he has a rough voice and all that, but I couldn't get into the music at all. It was like when rod steward was singing on South Park... I was pissed off, but still love dylan... the guy is def. in my top 10 artist of all time. |
