   | Your vision of a song... When I hear a song I always try to listen to the lyrics really good, and get them sunk deep into me and try to figure out what the song or album is about... As I listen to Dark side of the Moon, I think its about Apollo 13, think about it, one of the songs is breathe, they couldnt breathe in the ship, etc etc it just all fits together, as I was lisnen to comfortably numb, I read also the lyrics, and it seems like its about heroin... feel free to add anything, and tell about the ones you've figured out also... The album starts and ends in a heart beat fading in and out, representing birth and death. There albums are very much influenced by the events that were currently in their life, which is arguably why their music is so good, because they put their heart and soul into each album. | ||||

yeah i dont understand that. you can tell when someone doesnt dedicate themselves to their work, and pour their heart into a song (emo, rap, etc). If you can convey emotion in a song, you have created a great song no matter what.

Like Shine on You crazy Diamond (see how the letters capitalized spell out Syd) is about syd, the lyrics point out to him "come on you stranger you legend you matyr and shine", they even played that song to him when he came wondering into the studio and he didnt realize it was about him, apparently they all felt bad for him cause he was so strung out on drugs and had really lost senses of reality by then. and then wish you were here is said to be about him as well. then the songs welcome to the machine and have a cigar are apparently about the music industry esp have a cigar. welcome to the machine could be described too as just welcome to this capitalist loss of yourself your just a number society we live in, thats how i like to interpret it anyway. when i have a kid im going to play welcome to the machine and john lennon- working class hero on the way home from the hospital. as for animals, its pretty easy the animals all symbolize different roles in our society, like sheep would be the followers, like the mindless masses who do as theyre told. then pigs are authority and politicians etc. then the dogs are the mindless workers for the the coniving politicians like cops, the military and whatnot. then i think pigs on the wing are the free spirited individuals, at least that what i think, and if im wrong that would suck cause my aim sn is thisflying pig and my name on another forum is this flying pig. i already kind of explained the wall and dark side of the moon im dont know a whole lot about what roger was thinking when he wrote it, its just a great fuckin album, i know great gig in the sky was created to be like an orgasm. if you actually read all this and understood you can tell i really like pink floyd and if you do too id like to talk to more people who are into all this shit, esp the beatles. | ||||

| Re: Your vision of a song... After Animals which is my fav floyd album, especially dogs...great lyrics. I then remember putting the wall on and my first thought was who the fuck is singing? Roger apparently had some trauma as a kid with being bombed by hitler in the 40's and he mentions Vera Lynn who was a huge silent film star. This seems hugely egotistical and is more crappy pyschological confession than stoner rock album. Hated the orchestra parts too. Side 4 just sounds like a bad broadway musical soundtrack. A far cry from the earlier three albums. All stoner bands kinda died off during the 80's but even Yes-Drama was better than this album. | ||||

The wall is different from their other stuff but i liked the whole theatrical vibe of it. and on side 4 i like 'stop' where he sings 'i want to go home take off this uniform and leave the show', i always find myself singing that song to myself at work or school. | ||||
