they are the individual studies in several courses over several years, That is to say I don't have a piece of paper for each of them but was certified by taking the class

i have never fully understood why employers want a piece of paper to say you know something when your work should prove to them you know it.

Those that require the paper are those that really have no idea of the work. There are tons of paper "geniuses" out there that when required to work real time hands on, are fucking dumb asses.

Eh honestly, the certifications are stupid but apparently to employers it's the only way to know your shit because even though you've worked in tech industry for a while, unless you have some piece of fucking paper, your knowledge, no matter how vast, is fucking moot.

The only vertifications I want are CCIE, and various other networking related ones.

Btw, if you ever get certified in linux, apparently that's some kind of horribly retarded thing to do.

And also, a friend of mine told me while applying for jobs, don't let them know I can script, otherwise i'll be writing shit all day instead of just kicking back and being a slacker.

Yea I been in the industry for a while, I have seen a bunch a "paper Geniuses" who couldn't plug in a router correctly and on the other hand i have seen some Whiskey tango lookin pieces of shit who could string together a network with a coat hanger and a multi- tool the industry has changed so much in the past 18 moths even it's amazing guys are coming in at my pay scale with no experience because they are up on the newest gear and scripting fucking 22 year old dude makin 70K a year to look like a fuckin communications rackstar and doesn't do any measurable work while guys like me are on the backbone hangin are sacks out there to keep the company running smooth

Dec will be 3 yrs but i have already seen a lot of changes.

OF course it does. It's just ugh, alot of the most retarded shit requires work arounds, THANKFULLY server based shit is pretty fucking straight forward.

It's just alot of jobs require you to have a good working knowledge of linux..which I really don't, trying to though.

Anyway, I do feel like I'm a failure in some ways, I'm going for a 2 year associates degree in networking etc, because I honestly, can't find a 4 year program in it, and ugh, i figure, if I get a job at a data center (like this guy I now who calls himself feem online) and basically they teach me all the network engineering stuff, I'll save myself some scratch...even though I'll lock myself out of some potential jobs, but eh, those jobs probably are just like the other ones.

The one thing I /am/ scared about, is applying for a real, honest to god, salaried job once I get done with school. Like that scares me to death because around ehre there are no IT jobs..I'll have to go to a different city to find it, and that even scares me more. It's just like these huge steps I have to do....ugh. ._.

Linux isn't that bad. I am not a huge fan of anything command line but i try to keep Word docs for Cisco, Linux, etc and paste all commands i run across in there.
