Do you already have broadband at your house?
If you do it's just a matter of getting a wireless adapter and creating the network connection. Depending on the laptop it may have wireless capabilities onboard.

Yep, I have comcast cable internet and I got wireless on my Gentoo laptop.

You will need a wireless router. Your modem will plugin to the router feeding your internet into the router where it will then broadcast a wireless signal out. Your computer will need to have a wireless card (it may already have one) so that it can pick up the signal the wireless router is broadcasting.

If you need a better explination or any help beyond that just holla, and I will answer it to the best of my knowledge. I recommend a Linksys wireless router. I also suggest one that has ethernet ports as well in case you need to plug it in for whatever reason, etc.
