Yeah it's pretty obvious to do it inside during a Wisconsin winter :). I was thinking about going with some Indica because they grow smaller than the Sativas. I got the whole upstairs of my house to myself so I got room to do what I want. I was just gunna plant some of the seeds that I get in a dank sack and hope they grow female, (is there a way to tell if they are females before they are supposed to get some buds formin?) but again, I'm just going for one plant. Will one plant make my whole house stink?

Haterade: If this is your first grow, you can go cheap like da420 said and just get some fluros, but, unless you go for the fancy pants red/blue spectrum-type fluros you'll just not get the yield you get from sodium. Fluros are great lights to start your plants off under, no heat issue, and plenty light for young plants during veg (by veg, we mean either 24hrs continuous light, or 18/6...that is, 18 hours of light, 6 hours of darkness), but when it comes to flowering you just dont get that mass bulk really.....

A 75w HPS should be fine for 1 plant, you can get these in hardware stores, (they're usually sold as external floodlights with a side mounting bracket) you'll get a good feel for it, plus you should be able to use a cheap timer without it blowing due to high induction loads.

As for sex, you'll know LONG before you have buds whether they are male or female....first time you have to sex them it seems a bit daunting, but once you've seen it it's very easy to tell them apart. To sex, you simply switch you light schedule to 12/12 (12 hour of light, 12 hours of darkness) this is what makes plants begin to flower....some growers switch lights once their plants reach around a foot in height, some veg for 4 weeks.....personally, I veg slightly longer at 6 weeks, theory being (if you EVER get a female) she'll be a bigger plant and you'll get more bud from her...

One plant shouldn't stink the entire house out, smell depends on strain however, but personally, I've never had much problem with it and I live in a block of flats. Simple things like tumble drier sheets or even incense and odor neutralising sprays can help....

I'd say the MOST important thing when planning a garden, is always have you lights/fan/refelctive material etc set up BEFORE you germinate, that way you can see whether there are any problems with it, such as heat buildup, light leakage, or height.....above all, your safety and security is the most important thing, none of us want to be caught, so always keep that in mind and plan ahead.

Good luck, I'd say winter is the best time to grow because it's darker (easier to block light getting in the room) and the temps are cooler so less issue with heat.....

Guess what? My effing camera HAS completely died this time, the USB connection bit has basically fallen off, so it's bin-material now........which means I have no pics for my journal until I get a new camera, but, I can still take pics with this one and just stick the smartmedia card in the new camera (whenever that happens)

Grrr........Well, I can tell you about them (it's not as good as pics) 2 inches tall now, working on the 3rd set of leaves now, and should need their first repot any day.....bastardin' camera!

Rather than get a new camera, you can just get one of those USB cardreaders. I lost my cable for my camera, and it's worked fine for me. A lot of times some of your random other computer stuff will have ports on it...my printer has a card reader built into it as well.

The Sensi Star seeds have arrived, haha, I nearly thought I wasn't going to get them, cos I used a pseudonym on the postal address, but I had to sign for the packet 'cos it was sent special delivery............

And the cardreader thing is a genius idea (I didn't know such things existed) I've just bought one for £2, much cheaper than a digi cam......so, I'll keep taking pics (they all got repotted yesterday) and I'll pop 'em on here once that thingy arrives........

Cops WHILE in the middle of the big trim, I think my heart would have packed it's suitcases, exploded out my chest Aliens-style, and left me for dead on the hall carpet, gagh, just as well you weren't tripping (had the meter guy come to our door while I was off my face on shrooms, I thought he was a cop, had plants etc, and I freaked out!! Hahaha)

Hi,

It's a homebuilt thingy which stands about 6 1/2 ft tall and is about 3x3ft.....it's just a timber frame clad with chipboard panels that we drilled lots and lots of holes in so there's plenty ventillation without losing too much surface area for reflection.....

We painted the inside matt white, white paint reflects a lot of light, I think somewhere in the region of 85%, so nearly as good as mylar, but without the cost.....we also have white panels on the floor which also reflect light back.

though, we now have mylar on the walls too, this stuff reflects 95% light, and seems to be pretty good for the purpose (mylar is basically a relfective plastic sheeting, some growers use tinfoil/aluminium foil for this, but trouble is that tinfoil reflects heat as well as light, so can make your growbox too hot which causes heatstress in the plants.....erm, that basically results in the leaves starting to curl up)

I need to get the window sorted tho, normal curtains do nothing to block the light out, and I'm a bit worried someone in the block of flats across from mine might notice the same dodgy blue light switch on/off at the exact same time every day......

Maggit is hassling me to stick another piccie in the journal (women sheesh!) as the plants are growing quite a bit at the moment.


Pleased to say they are all a lovely deep shade of green, still had no nutes and they're about 4 weeks of age now.......they're ging to need repotted again soon which may present us with some problems as I'm not sure how we're going to fit 10 5 litre pots in our grow cupboard, and, I'd really rather keep everyone under the hallide rather than have some vegging under the sodium next door.........hmm, we'll squeeze them in there somehow.......

The kali is the tallest at 9 inches (duh) followed by the eclipses, then citral, papaya and lastly afghan (also duh) actually on a closer look I think I see the most minute hint of a different green in the lower, older growth...hmm, might need a feed soon afterall.....

Anywa, week 4=28 days, and we like to veg for around 40 days, so not long till the light is switched...........then another 10 weeks of drought and HOPEFULLY some bloody bud at last!!! Wouldn't that be nice??

We usually get between 1 and 2 oz's per plant and while they're not showing sex yet, there LOOKS like being 5/6 girls in there......

So do some happy maths......and that equals a stoned maggit and fly.

Sticky: I'll be going to Amsterdam at Chrimbo....If I win the lottery between now and then!! Erm, the ONLY way I can get grass is to feckin drive a 600 mile round trip to England to get some.........that is rather pants, but, it'll be damned good grass, and I can get 2o fairly cheap, so that'll slightly counter the fuel costs.........mind you, if anyone fancies sending us an 8th or more that'd be cool.....will pay ya for it :)

Kage: We veg for 6 weeks or until we get decent signs of sex under 18/6, whichever comes first....I don't like to rush veg, by the time our girls (haha) are ready to get the sodium, they are usually well-developed, have great big internodes, and are closer to 2 foot tall....we also repot lots and lots, it's just down to mass really, larger plant=more yield.....

I've yet to get an actual crop under the 400w light, but our 250w light was producing yields of on average, 35g per plant (dry).....bare in mind that we were only ever growing a maximum of 3 females at a time...

Some plants are showing sex, we have 3 confirmed females!!

2 Eclipses,
1 Citral...

And we're pretty damned sure that 1 of the Afghans is a girl, the calyx certainly is the right shape, think we'll see 2 pistils any day, and possibly the 2nd Afghan is also female!

But 3 is a good start for sure!!!!
