| The Pedobear Seal of Approval! | Straight-Acting Gays...? Yeah, I don't expect alot of discussion on this out of any of you, but here it goes. Today I was listening to American Lifestyle on NPR and an interesting topic came up: Gays calling themselves "straight-acting." The discussion on it was that it was the "straight-acting" gays who were being the sissies not the femmy gays because they were denying a part of themselves by calling themselves that. I find this complete utter-bullshit. Granted, I know that they didn't mean that all gay people have to be squishy, it's just that it if you try to act straight, and try to not let people know you are gay, it's kind of that thing. However, as a bisexual/gay man, I must say that I am not a "femmy." granted, I am open about it, but I do not put on make-up, I do not femminze myself, I just like boys, what's wrong with that? Any other gay guys out there? Do you consider yourself straight acting? I heard a friend of mine say that one of his gay friends told him that "if you had a deeper voice, you'd probably get more dates." I'm like WTF!? It seems that most gay people stray away from the femmys cause they don't want to draw attention to themselves, and that's just plain sad... I don't know, I wouldn't mind dating a femmy...as long as I don't have to be on top. =P |

| what if your dope was on fire? | Re: Straight-Acting Gays...? ewww... well anyways, it makes sense that alot of gay people don't want to be open about it, i mean there are still too many prejudice people out there, i don't think that they are any less for acting straight, they are just playing it smarter... |

Second off, I dont look at sexual orientation as a choice of lifestyle, I see it as the group of people you want to fuck. Thats it. Ive met some butch gay guys, Ive met some pussy ass straight guys (A TON!). Personality should have no linkage to sexual orientation IMO.

| The Pedobear Seal of Approval! | Re: Straight-Acting Gays...? I understand, but let me tell you what. In any big town, it is more accepting to be reading "The Joy of Gay Sex" while walking down the street, than walking down the street in platform shoes. I don't think it's america not accepting of gays, it's the sissyness bit y'know? That's the bit that america has a problem with... |

| Amateur | Re: Straight-Acting Gays...? i have no clue what yur talkin about.. the way i see it there are gays like a certain member on this site who are gay, but dont feel the need to wear a pink shirt and jump up and down waving their arms screaming i'm gay i'm gay... many gays go to work, school, drive a car, shit, eat, whatever the same as straights but there is a man next to them instead of a girl and for those people they very rarley run into any problems because they dont let what people say bother them they dont feel they need to dress to express themselves they just live as normal people because they are normal people. but some gays feel the need to make everyone aware of how they are different. i really dont care what goes on in your bedroom so dont march in parades to tell me about it. |

| Just Say Maybe | Re: Straight-Acting Gays...? Yay, someone else who listens to NPR. That makes me feel better. As a straight female I don't know if this matters, but just my two cents. I have a few gay male friends, a couple that just recently came out. The one who's been out for the longest is the most feminine. The one that came out a couple months ago, who had been trying to convince himself he wasn't gay for most of his life, suddenly started acting very flamboyant when he came out. However, since he's much more the stereotype (he's very attractive, deep voice, nice dresser) he gets infinitly more dates than my friend whose been out longer but acts more flaming and less "metrosexual." Finally my friend who is bi seems to hide the fact that he's gay out in public and hits on girls only when other people are around. This seems to piss off his gay friends but no one ever thinks he likes boys til he tells them. I don't know if that had a point. But rock on and date whoever you want. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Straight-Acting Gays...? For what it's worth, I'd say as far as my appearance goes based on my sexual orientation, I'm fairly androgenous, I don't go overboard on either gender. I don't wear makeup/nailpolish/skirts or high heeled shoes on the basis that this sort of 'garb' is highly constrained IMO & I can't see how any woman can be comfy in that stuff. But I'm not all uber-dyke either, I don't have short hair and wear overly masculine clothing......I just prefer jeans & a t-shirt. I do tend to wear men's clothing, but when you're nearly 6 foot tall and pretty well built, that's just the more comfortable, practical option.... Flamboyant gay men just remind me of catty straight women..... K -x-

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Straight-Acting Gays...? I do agree that some overly flamboyant gay dudes and chicks piss me off... Thing is it's the for straight people? If a straight person is all in your face, loud and attention-seeking I'll think he's just as much of a prick heh.... On the sexuality thing... It's wierd most people don't seem to be able to pin me; I'm pretty much straight BUT I'll give my opinion on a dude if someone asks and I do wear this light pink hoody most of the time (it's soft and I love it, lol)... Schmeh. Seems to me that a lot of people assume, if you don't get all cagey or constantly prove your straightitude (heh), that you're gay- especially in my school (all male... EUGH... we're attached to the girls' section of the school in some ways- it's R-E-TARDED)

| The Pedobear Seal of Approval! | Re: Straight-Acting Gays...? well, wow. lol. I myself to tell you the truth, am a bit of a femmy, I can act feminine at times, however, I do not go over the top with my feminiism, however, I hear some dude saying that "It is the straight-acting gay male who is the real sissy. he is trying to hide who he is, and that is more sissy than a guy who is happy with who he is and is a real man and act like who he is." I can understand that point, but I don't know, overly fem gays turn me off...I'd prefer a guy who is gay, and is fine with it, and can actly manly, and still be gay...maybe I'm asking too much... |
